Preparing your garden for planting

March 10th, 2011

It is time to prepare your garden for planting. Adding organic matter to our soil is the best way to break up that heavy clay. Building decent soil here in Colorado takes time. Compost is always a good place to start.  Always be sure to use compost from a trusted source and be careful with uncomposted products such as manure, as these can cause salinity problems and burn the roots of your crops.  If you are having trouble with your garden, we are always more than happy to help. If soil is your problem or you suspect it is, we have kits from CSU for soil testing, as well as test kits you can use to test it yourself.

Seed potatoes and onion sets should be in any day now. It is time to plant potatoes, onions, spinach, lettuce, carrots, swiss chard, and radishes.
