5 Steps to Starting Your Own Garden from Seeds!
February 18th, 2019
Now is the best time to start purchasing and finding the right seeds for your summer garden. Seeds are a great option because they are cheaper than starts, and there is always a huge variety of soon-to-be plants to choose from. Planting seeds is also a huge accomplishment when you get to see all your hard work grow into edible food or a beautiful flower. If you are a novice gardener, here are a few steps to help you on your way to successful seed starting!
Step 1: Visit Fossil Creek Nursery and Pick Out Your Seeds
Fossil Creek Nursery carries a wide variety of seeds from local companies right here in Colorado. From peppers to pumpkins and Columbines to Geraniums, we have every type of seed you need this planting season. Hurry in as seed favorites tend to sell out quicker and we are unable to re-stock.
Step 2: Pick Out Your Pots
We carry Start and Sprout, biodegradable starter pots, as well as plastic pots and Terra Cotta! Pick your favorite type and prepare to start planting!
Step 3: Do You Need a Seedling Starter Tray?
Seedling starter trays and covers allow you to start growing your seeds all in one spot from the germination stage until they are ready to be planted. We have trays that can hold 32 different plants at once! These trays can also be used for cloning or cuttings.
Step 4: Soil
Make sure to pick up a bag of potting soil that is made specifically for growing seedlings. There are all kinds of brands and types depending on what you are growing. Stop on by or give us a call and one of our team members would be happy to give you suggestions. 970.226.4924
Step 5: Happy Planting
Once you pick up your supplies, you can start planting! Begin by filling your pots or trays with the potting soil. Next you want to moisten the soil with water. Then follow the instructions on the seed packet for planting depth and spacing. To speed up germination, use your tray covers or cover the top of the pot with plastic wrap. Then move your tray or pots to a sunny location with a warmer temperature. Make sure the soil continues to stay moist. Once you spot some green, take the covers off your trays/ pots. Finally, you will want to transport the seedlings to your garden or to their permanent location. Now you have officially started your own garden!
